When the 60,000 sons saw the horse in Kapil’s ashram they got furious and started to attack the hermitage. Sage Kapil was in deep meditation and on hearing the disturbance he opened his eyes in anger and all the 60,000 sons. Anshuman the grandson of King Sagar brought the horse back from the Sage and asked for his forgiveness. Sage Kapil told him that the sons can be brought to life only if Ganga brought from heaven to earth. Neither Anshuman nor his son Dilip were successful in this task. But Dilip’s son, Bhagirath meditated for a long time and he pleaded Ganga to descend t earth for the Mokha of his ancestors. Ganga asked Bhagirath to Plead Shiva to lock her in his Hair because the earth could not bear the flow of a river falling from haven. King Bhagirath then worshipped Lord Shiva and Shiva blessed him and released Ganga from his locks in seven streams. The water of Ganga touched the ashes of Sagar sons who rose to the their eternal rest in heaven. The seven streams of Ganga are Bhagirathi, Janhvi, Bhilangana, Mandakini, Rishiganga, Saraswati and Alaknanda which merge into Ganga at Devprayag. The rock on which King Bhagirath is believed to have meditated, is called Bhagirath Shila . Lord Shiva is also worshiped as Gangadhar.

Some of Her other names include Jaahnavi, Nikita, Jaahnukanya, Sapteshwari, Sureshwari, Bhagvati, Urvijaya, Chitraani, Tridhara, Bhaagirathi, Shubhra, Vaishnavi, Vishnupadi, Bhagvatpadi, Tripathaga, Payoshnika, Mahabhadra, Mandaakini, Meghna, Meghal, Gangika, Gange, Gangeshwari, and Alaknanda. She is worshiped by Hindus who believe that bathing in the river causes the remission of sins and facilitates Moksha (liberation from the cycle of life and death), and that the water of the Ganges is considered very pure. Pilgrims immerse the ashes of their kin in the Ganges, which is considered by them to bring the spirits closer to moksha. In Hinduism, moksha is the liberation from the cycle of life and death. Ganga is described as the melodious, the fortunate, the cow that gives much milk, the eternally pure, the delightful, the body that is full of fish, affords delight to the eye and leaps over mountains in sport, the bedding that bestows water and happiness, and the friend or benefactor of all that lives. Several years later, a king named Sagara magically acquired sixty thousand sons. One day, King Sagara performed a ritual of worship for the good of the kingdom. One of the integral parts of the ritual was a horse, which was stolen by the jealous Indra. Sagara sent all his sons all over the earth to search for the horse. They found it in the nether-world (or Underworld) next to a meditating sage Kapil tied by Lord Indra(the king of Swarg). Believing that the sage had stolen the horse, they hurled insults at him and caused his penance to be disturbed. The sage opened his eyes for the first time in several years and looked at the sons of Sagara. With this glance, all sixty thousand were burnt to death. The souls of the sons of Sagara wandered as ghosts since their final rites had not been performed. For the moksha of all the sons of Sagar, Anshuman(nephew of those 60,000 son) started to pray Brahma to bring Ganga to the earth till the end of his life, but was not successful. Then his son Dilip did the same but did not succeed. When Bhagiratha (Means, one who does great hard work- he got his name from his great hard work for bringing Ganga to earth), one of the descendants of Sagara, son of Dilip, learnt of this fate, he vowed to bring Ganga down to Earth so that her waters could cleanse their souls and release them to heaven. Bhagiratha prayed to Brahma that Ganga come down to Earth. Brahma agreed and he ordered Ganga to go down to the Earth and then on to the nether regions so that the souls of Bhagiratha's ancestors would be able to go to heaven. Ganga felt that this was insulting and decided to sweep the whole Earth away as she fell from the heavens. Alarmed, Bhagiratha prayed to Shiva that he break up Ganga's descent. Ganga arrogantly fell on Shiva's head. But Shiva calmly trapped her in his hair and let her out in small streams. The touch of Shiva further sanctified Ganga. As Ganga travelled to the nether-worlds, she created a different stream to remain on Earth to help purify unfortunate souls there. She is the only river to follow from all the three worlds – Swarga (heaven), Prithvi (Earth) and Patala (netherworld or hell). Thus is called Tripathagā(one who travels the three worlds) in Sanskrit language. Because of Bhagiratha's efforts, Ganga descended to Earth and hence the river is also known as Bhagirathi and the term Bhagirath prayatna is used to describe valiant efforts or difficult achievements. Another name that Ganga is known by is Jahnavi, Story has it that once Ganga came down to Earth, on her way to Bhagiratha, her rushing waters created turbulence and destroyed the fields and the sadhana of a sage called Jahnu. He was angered by this and drank up all of Ganga's waters. Upon this, the Gods prayed to Jahnu to release Ganga so that she could proceed on her mission. Pleased with their prayers, Jahnu released Ganga(her waters) from his ears. Hence the name Jahnavi(daughter of Jahnu) for Ganga. It is sometimes believed that the river will finally dry up at the end of Kali Yuga, the last of the four stages the world goes through as part of the cycle of yugas (the era of darkness, the current era) just as with the Sarasvati river and this era will end. Next in(cyclic) order will be the Satya Yuga or the era of Truth.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhagiratha Bhagiratha (Sanskrit: भगीरथ, bhagīratha) was a great king who brought the River Ganges, personified as the river goddess Ganga, to Earth from the heavens. Bhagiratha was the king of Kosala, a kingdom in ancient India. He was a descendent of the great King Sagara of the Suryavansha, or Surya Dynasty. He was one of the forefathers of Lord Rama, of the Ramayana, the epic in which Bhagiratha's tale is primarily recounted. He lost his father when he was just a child, and was raised by his mother. Bhagiratha was very intelligent, virtuous and kind hearted. When he came of age, Bhagiratha ascended to the throne of the kingdom of Kosala, today located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He was a benevolent ruler who adhered to his duties as a king as prescribed by dharma. Bringing Ganga back to Earth was a near impossible task and required many years to be spent in tapasya and prayer. The Kosala kings of successive generations could not do this while managing their duties as kings. As a result, the sins of the thousand princes multiplied in their destructive energy, and began resulting in natural disasters. The kingdom began to lose its peace and prosperity, and by the time Bhagiratha ascended the throne, he found it impossible to govern. Bhagiratha turned over the kingdom to his trusted ministers and set off to the Himalayas to perform an arduous tapasya in the extreme climate. For one thousand years, he performed an excruciatingly harsh penance to please Lord Brahma. At the end of the thousand years, Brahma was pleased and asked him for his wish. Bhagiratha asked Brahma to bring the river Ganges down to earth so that he may perform the ceremony for his ancestors. Brahma asked Bhagiratha to propitiate Lord Shiva, for only He is capable to break Ganga's landfall. Ganga has a strong flow and it would have been impossible for anyone to contain the destructive impact of this event except Shiva. Bhagiratha performed a tapasya for Lord Shiva, living only on air. The compassionate Shiva appeared only after a year's penance, and told Bhagiratha he should not have to perform tapasya to accomplish a noble goal such as this. He assured Bhagiratha that he would make Ganga fall on his matted locks (dreadlocks). After aeons of being flattered and praised by the Devas, Ganga had become vain. She scoffed at Brahma when he asked her to flow down to earth, but could not disobey him as he was her father. But Ganga was sure, as much as Bhagiratha was afraid that no one could stop her fall, which would devastate the earth for a long time. As she cascaded down from Swarga, Bhagiratha and celestial observers were terrified of the roar and volume of water coming down. But Lord Shiva appeared under the flow and captured all of Ganga in his jataa just before she fell on earth. Ganga came to the earth because of Bhagiratha's efforts so Ganga is also called Bhagirathi. Ganga then flowed over the remains of the 60,000 ancestors of Bhagiratha and brought them moksha. It is still believed to flow, from Shiva's jataa down to earth with a gentler force. Bhagiratha led the way for Ganga on his chariot, and she followed him across the north and east of Bharat and finally merging with the ocean. In her course she washed the ashes of Sagara's sixty thousand sons, who ascended to heaven while praising and blessing Bhagiratha. Commemoration For its descent to Earth being owed to Bhagiratha's efforts, Ganga is also known as Bhagirathi (daughter of Bhagiratha) as proclaimed by Lord Brahma. Bhagiratha's own great effort was praised by all the Gods and his ancestors, and is known as a Bhagiratha Prayatna, as proclaimed by Lord Brahma. It is a great inspiration to any man who seeks to do something noble despite facing overwhelming odds. .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganges_in_Hinduism In Hinduism, the river Ganges is considered sacred and is personified as a goddess known as Ganga. It is worshipped by Hindus who believe that bathing in the river causes the remission of sins and facilitates Moksha (liberation from the cycle of life and death). According to Bhagavata Purana, Lord Vishnu in one of his incarnations, appeared as Vamana in the sacrificial arena of Asura King Mahabali. Then in order to measure the universe, he extended his left foot to the end of the universe and pierced a hole in its covering with the nail of his big toe. Through the hole, the pure water of the Causal Ocean (Divine Brahm-Water) entered this universe as the Ganges River. Having washed the lotus feet of the Lord, which are covered with reddish saffron, the water of the Ganges acquired a very beautiful pink color. Because the Ganges directly touches the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu (Narayana) before descending within this universe, Ganges is known as Bhagavat-Padi which means Emanating from the lotus feet of Bhagavan (God). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaA5DIUeT6E

------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enjoy and stay connected with us!! © 2017 Tollywood Film City Media Pvt.Ltd.

‘Jai GANGA Maiya’ was based on the most revered and the only living goddess - GANGA. GANGA is the most revered river in the world and is unique in many ways not because of its amazing length or width or any other unusual features. There are other rivers in the world which surpass the GANGA on many of these counts but no other river can match the reverence and affection that is shown to GANGA by the people of India and the world. GANGA enriches the spiritual lives of millions of Indians for whom the river is Holy because river GANGA personifies Goddess GANGA who descends to earth to cleanse the sins of the mankind. Residing in the Kamandalu of Lord BRAHMA, Bhagwati GANGA, like SARASWATI and LAXMI is one of the seven SHAKTIS of supreme Goddess MAHAMAYA ADISHAKTI. The story goes far back when King Sagar, proud father of 60,000 and one son ruled India. The youths, so goes the legend, were so disrespectful to Kapil Muni, a holy man, while trying to trace the missing horse used in Ashwamedh yagna, that he reduced them to ashes with a withering look. On repeated repentance and requests by the sole surviving son of King Sagar - does Kapil Muni finally relent - King Sagar’s sons would attain mukti - liberation - only if their sinful remains are cleansed by the water of the goddess GANGA. Generation after generation do penance to appease Brahma but without success - and finally after much praying, pleading and tapasya by Bhagirath - seventh generation of King Sagar - GANGA reluctantly consents to descend to earth. To contain its powerful fall, Lord SHIVA steps in the way and lets the river tumble gently through his long hair onto the Himalayas. GANGA then flows across India to the edge of ocean, where she washes over the ashes and gives mukti - liberation - to the sons of King Sagar, an event commemorated even today. GANGA represents an innermost strain of pristine coolness, piety and purity. The river itself epitomizes all the characteristics India is known for: mythical, serene, all pervading and assimilative. Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Jai GANGA Maiya’ is based on: Shreemad Devi Bhagwat / Shree Padma Mahapuran / Shree Bhagwat Mahapuran / Shree Durga Sapatashati / Shree Skand Mahapuran / Shree Waman Mahapuran. Others sources of inspiration include: His Holiness Shankaracharya / Maharishi Valmiki / Ved Vyas / Sant Tulsidas and also folk literature, popular legends of medieval and modern literature. The initial episodes of ‘Jai Ganga Maiya’ were preceded by a commentary by its maker Ramanand Sagar wherein he eulogizes the greatness of GANGA, a bridge between the past and present - past and future, quoting extensively from the modern day scholars like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad, Shankaracharya and Iqbal among others.

SEE GOD SHIVA AND GODDESS GANGA APPEARING IN SKY ON 08-05-2012. STORY: On 15-Feb-2006 at 07-30 hrs I saw snake god Shesha Nag with five heads appearing and moving in the sky. After a few seconds I saw 7 bright stars in a line moving in the sky. Soon all the 7 stars became 7 buds in the sky and they were moving from North West sky to South East sky. On the move all the seven buds were growing and when they reached in front of me all of them stopped in a line. Then the first bud started to become flower and after becoming flower it became a big fish in the sky. It was god Matsya Avatar (fish incarnation of god Vishnu). Then the second bud became flower and soon that flower became god Garuda. Then the third bud became flower and that flower became god Shiva. Then the fifth bud became flower and that flower became god Muthappan. Then the sixth bud became flower and that flower became elephant headed god, Ganesha. Soon the last bud started to become flower and after becoming flower it became a big snake god in the sky. It was snake god Nagadevta. In short one after one all the 7 buds became flowers and all 7 flowers became 7 gods. They were Matsya Avatar, Garud, Shiva, Muthappan, Ganesha, Hanuman and snake god Nagdevta. After 7 minutes all the 7 gods disappeared together in the sky. Since then, gods, goddesses and prophets described in all religious books in the world are appearing in front of me in the sky. During the Loy Krathong festival in Thailand, candlelit floats are released into waterways to honour Gautama Buddha and goddess Ganga for good fortune and washing away sins (pāpa in Sanskrit, used to describe actions that create negative karma by violating moral and ethical codes, which brings negative consequences).
